Hello Peter,
I hope, that the new F.O.M. will be easier to perceive than the classic G / T.
For further understanding, an important condition (case) is the Reference Temperature taken as 290K and Sky Temperature taken as 290K, and Earth Temperature taken as 290 K.
In this case, the value of Figure of Merit = the value of Forward Gain.
The more Forward Gain, the more F.O.M.
Now, we go to the 2 meter band, where, for example, Sky Temperature = 290K and Earth Temperature = 3000…5000K (for a city, with man-made noise). Then, F.O.M. < Forward Gain.
Or, we go to the 432 MHz, where F.O.M. > Forward Gain or… not more…
For example, 290/5000 for 144 MHz and 20/350 for 432 MHz in the attachment.
Also, for example only, 1296 MHz sheet I made 290/290 at reference 290. In this case, F.O.M. = Forward Gain and Fa = 0.00 dB.

External Noise Figure as Fa = T_pattern / T_reference, dB.

Sky Temperature and Earth Temperature for user input.
TANT = TANT by YT1NT output is used for the EXCEL calculation.
Regards.
Vladimir, UR5EAZ.
